Operators do more than just conveniently open and close your garage door; they protect your family by securely locking the door, preventing unauthorized entry, and they also prevent injury and damage by preventing the door from closing when an obstruction is detected.
Installation: When it’s time to replace your old operator, trust Alt Garage Doors to do it right. We can supply and install a brand new operator that will fit your needs and your budget. If you decided to purchase one from your local hardware store and want us to install that one instead, we will gladly do that too.Repair: Occasionally, a garage door operator can be repaired when one of its components fails. We can diagnose the issue and will recommend whether your operator can be repaired instead of replaced. We always take into consideration the age and circumstance of your current set-up.
Garage door torsion springs are essential to the proper function of your door. They do the heavy-lifting, and over time, they wear out and break. When this happens, it is crucial they get replaced as soon as possible.
Installation (Torsion): When a garage door spring breaks, it is time to replace it. If your door has two springs but only one has broken, it is strongly advised to replace both springs at the same time to prevent unnecessary wear on the other components. We will supply and install the appropriate spring for your specific door.Installation (Extension): Although not as common as torsion springs, extension-style springs are still sold by some manufacturers and used in residential garage door applications. When these types of springs fail, we strongly recommend a system conversion over replacement; please see our system conversion section for more information.
The garage door lift cables, located on both sides of the door, are an important element of the lifting mechanism; without them, the springs could not lift the door. It is vital that they are in good working order to prevent serious injury from a free-falling door if they should fail when the door is suspended.
Installation: All the components of your garage door are under a high amount of constant tension; this stress, over time, can cause lift cables to snap, unravel, fray, or just come loose.Whatever the circumstance, trust Alt Garage Doors to fix it. Lift cables come in pairs and are always replaced as a set. In situations where the cables do not need replacing because they’ve just unraveled or come loose, we will inspect and determine the root cause.
This may be obvious to some, but your garage door serves as the single largest entry to your home. In a recent survey, it was revealed that over 70% percent of homeowners use their garage door to enter and exit their homes more than their front door. Adding to the belief that today’s garage door is the new front door, this makes it one of the most essential aspects of your home. Sadly, it is often overlooked when it comes to regular care and maintenance.
Installation: The garage door is the largest and heaviest moving part of your home. In fact, a garage door can weigh hundreds of pounds, therefore you should never try to install a new door on your own, or make any repairs you aren’t qualified to make; this isn’t a job for the weekend DIY handyman. It’s a complex and potentially dangerous task because garage doors are under extreme tension, and if any part breaks or snaps, your door could drop and seriously harm anything in its path. Don’t take chances.
Trust Alt Garage Doors to install it for you; we will work with you to make sure you are satisfied with your door, everything from design to operation. Maintenance: It’s a fact, Mother Nature doesn’t like to play nice; she delivers long, cold, harsh winters and short, hot summers, and everything in between. Garage doors have to deal with snow, ice, wind, rain, salt, hockey pucks, teenagers, bad drivers, and the list goes on.
With our maintenance and tune-up package, we’ll make sure your garage door is ready for anything. Our maintenance package includes a complete inspection and lubrication of all moving parts (i.e. springs, rollers, hinges, cables, pulleys, and drive mechanisms) and the attached operator. Also included are any adjustments needed and tightening of any loose hardware. Replacement parts and accessories are available at additional costs.
So you have an insulated garage door, but your garage still feels a bit drafty. It could be the weather stripping around the outside and underneath your door isn’t quite up to snuff anymore. Make no mistake: even if your door is insulated, if the weather stripping isn’t doing its job properly, you are throwing money into the wind in heating and cooling costs. This is especially true if you have an attached garage.
Installation: Just like doors, weather stripping comes in several styles, colors, and applications to choose from. Trust Alt Garage Doors to install your door’s new weather stripping that will not only add visually to the overall look and finish of your door but will also impact your savings account in the long term.
Weather stripping should be pliable and make contact with your door all the way around, and it should conform to the door’s overall shape. It is recommended that inspection of the weather stripping happen throughout the year, and if it is found to be cracked, missing, or damaged, it should be replaced right away.
A system conversion is a fancy term for describing a complete lifting mechanism change over from either a Torque Master system, or the older, and less frequently used extension spring system to a more widely used and serviceable conventional system. It is our opinion when these systems fail to replace them rather than service them. Ask us about which system you currently have.
Installation (WD): As mentioned above, it is our opinion when a Torque-Master system fails, it is best to simply convert it to a conventional spring system. If you have ever noticed a large shaft above a garage door that spans the width of the door, with either one or two large torsion springs wrapped around the shaft near the middle, then you have already witnessed a conventional system.
We at Alt Garage Doors recommend this style of system over a Torque-Master system for its widespread use, ease of serviceability, and availability of parts.
